This links to a post at NPR’s blog where David Morgan (a physicist) attempts to explain what a Tesseract is, there is also an article which explains that Madeleine L’Engle used the term Tessering to explain how her characters were able to travel outside the bounds of our perceived time and space. This article explains that Tesseracts do exist though some of their behavior in L’Engle’s books doesn’t necessarily coincide with their true nature.

It was definitely interesting to hear a Physicist try to explain this in laymen’s terms. The audio wasn’t the best on my computer or was it the recording I’m not sure. That wasn’t too big a deal though since the visuals were significantly more instructive than the audio I did hear. I still can’t say I fully understand the concept but then that might never happen. I never really got Physics when I had to take it in high school and am not sure I would understand it any better now. Seeing these pictures however will make my next reading of her series more enjoyable now that I have a faint idea of the concept.
