A Passion Most Pure by Julie Lessman – My Review

Faith is nearing her 20th birthday while Charity has just recently finished her schooling. The young man that Faith has secretly admired since childhood is being enticed by Charity but has changed from the caring, gentle person that Faith remembers from school yard days.

Charity seems to have one motivation and that is to take what isn’t hers and wrap men around her little finger. Jealousy ensues since she is successful at it and her looks only makes things worse.

This book is not only a riveting story but also full of emotional dynamite. There are times when even I couldn’t guess what the next page would bring or that a character was so sure of something the reader was as well but will it really end that way? Julie Lessman’s language evokes a strong emotional response and makes her characters seem that much more real as the reader not only sees their story on the page but feels their sadness, disappointments, frustrations, joy and everything else right along with them. She has crafted a gripping suspenseful narrative that is chock full of encouraging nuggets from scripture as well as wonderful examples of faith and relying on the Lord even when we as fallible humans manage to make a mess of things. Faith learns that emotions are out of our control but at the same time she also discovers that turning to God will get her through those times without compromising her commitment to the Lord. She also learns to forgive and trust when it seems impossible through the Lord’s strength and also that prayer truly does move mountains or in this case stubborn men. As long as the Lord is our focus and we rely on him anything is possible and He will as the Psalm says give us the desires of our heart.

  1. I’ve been seeing Julie’s book pop up here and there and am just thrilled with the description so far. I’m very much looking forward to having my own copy sometime soon and plan to begin with the first book to collect the whole series she is working on. I’m glad to see her book on your blog.
