I certainly enjoyed the first two books in this series even though they are a bit different than the Little House books I loved as a child and still have on my keeper shelf for the right time in the lives of the girls who come across my path. When these next books of the series hit the radar of course I snapped them up as well. More wholesome stories for girls and even a few boys might enjoy these ones too although it seems that so many historical children’s stories are written for girls other than Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn of course. Other than being girly books which isn’t really an issue for me since I like them that way – lol, these are great stories and even make good read alouds for younger children if you can hold their interest without pictures. The length of the “chapters” or stories are short enough for 4 to 7 year old attention spans if the lack of pictures isn’t an issue. The stories can be read together or stand alone quite well and character building isn’t an issue since these are essentially story collections, however the characters do stay consistent and if you read through several stories even across multiple books you definitely grow attached to recurring characters. The simplicity of the stories make them understandable for youngsters yet there are undertones and themes between the lines that also speak to older readers and keep their interest as well. What a great series to grow the family on and share timeless lessons about life along the way while having fun with some entertaining wholesome stories everyone can enjoy.
