After reading River’s Song I was impatiently waiting for my next chance to sit down with Anna and her friends and family while I revisited the Siuslaw Valley and the picturesque Inn of her dreams from the first book as it developed into reality. River’s Call provides much of that opportunity. There are also developments and additions to the family that are not expected such as a granddaughter welcomed to the family and a “shotgun” wedding that neither the bride or groom seem to be truly invested in.
As usual Carlson’s characters new and old wrap themselves up in your heart and the last page comes too soon. The emotions and events of the story become as if you were a part of them yourself rather than just an observer through the medium of the written word and within a few pages it is no longer just a book but rather an experience that involves your entire being as you read. Once again kudos for a great story and I can’t wait till August for the next book. (ISBN#9781426712678, 320pp, $14.99)
