BIBLIOPHILE BANTER:
This book resonated with so many of the things I as a bibliophile encounter in my own life.
The Literary Sin of Obsessing over books and having too many of my own. I have two bookshelves taller than myself stacked two books deep on all shelves including the top of the bookcase. I’d have more on the shelves if I had more space or more shelves because there are at least a dozen 10-ream-sized paper cases that now hold books sitting in the garage. Until I have my own ‘home’ rather than sharing with family who is kind enough to allow me a place that is my situation and buying new books other than Kindle or other ebooks is not an option.
The Library has never really been my first choice although now I use the library remotely for ebook checkouts from time to time. However I prefer owning my books and being able to read them on my schedule. I like to take my time and savor the story, turn it around in my head. I like to live in the story world; engage with the characters, either discover new friends or become someone else for a few hours or moments as the case may be.
I prefer physical books for the feel and experience. However I have learned the joys of ebooks over the past several years. Often the price point is lower for the same book. They can contain extra features a physical book is unable to provide. Portability is a huge plus.
As for organizing the shelves I have four general sections: Inspirational Fiction, Inspirational Non-Fiction, Mainstream Fiction, Mainstream Non-Fiction. Each Section is alphabetical by author and series are together and ordered chronologically . The majority of the Inspirational sections are Biblically or Christian based literature partly because with the fiction I can find ‘clean’ Romance and such. I enjoy a large variety of genres with the exception of thriller, horror, extreme violence, steamy romance. I can truly fall for a good, sweet love story; a well built fantasy; even a touch of sci-fi and I love a well thought out cozy mystery or drama.
For so many people, reading isn't just a hobby or a way to pass the time--it's a lifestyle. Our books shape us, define us, enchant us, and even sometimes infuriate us. Our books are a part of who we are as people, and we can't imagine life without them. I'd Rather Be Reading is the perfect literary companion for everyone who feels that way. In this collection of charming and relatable reflections on the reading life, beloved blogger and author Anne Bogel leads readers to remember the book that first hooked them, the place where they first fell in love with reading, and all of the moments afterward that helped make them the reader they are today. Known as a reading tastemaker through her popular podcast What Should I Read Next?, Bogel invites book lovers into a community of like-minded people to discover new ways to approach literature, learn fascinating new things about books and publishing, and reflect on the role reading plays in their lives. The perfect gift for the bibliophile in everyone's life, I'd Rather Be Reading will command an honored place on the overstuffed bookshelves of any book lover. I received this book for free from the Author, Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
